Housing

Position on the issue: Increasing affordable housing options.

My primary focus is on addressing the critical issue of housing. The availability of affordable housing is a pressing concern for many residents in our beloved city. I am committed to advocating for policies and initiatives that will increase affordable housing options, ensuring that all members of our community have access to safe and stable housing. As a first time homeowner in the single member district of 6/8F02, I understand the importance of increasing sensible housing options in our city. It is an issue that affects many residents. I, too, once faced homelessness in my teen years after my family did not have a place to call home. I am committed to advocating for policies that make housing more accessible and affordable for all. As a concerned citizen, I strongly believe that increasing affordable housing options is crucial to the well-being of our community. To achieve this, we need to implement policies that: 

• Strongly make recommendations for affordable housing units in new developments: I will advocate for policies that require new residential projects to include a certain percentage of affordable housing units, thereby ensuring that growth and development do not leave our most vulnerable residents behind.
• Repurpose vacant buildings and lots for housing: We must be innovative in our approach to housing. Transforming unused or underutilized buildings into livable spaces is a practical solution to increase housing availability without further strain on our city's infrastructure.
• Advocate for equitable housing policies: It is crucial that we promote and support policies that address housing disparities. This includes ensuring fair housing practices and providing resources for those most in need.
  
  

Public Safety

Position on the issue: Invest in crime prevention.

Public safety is another significant concern that I intend to address. By investing in crime prevention strategies and fostering collaboration between community members, law enforcement, and local organizations, we can create a safer environment for everyone. As a responsible member of our community, I recognize the significance of tackling the increasing problem of public safety. I firmly believe that investing in crime prevention measures is essential to firmly establish a secure environment for everyone. I am dedicated to working collaboratively with others to improve public safety and create a safe neighborhood. In order to enhance public safety in our community, it is imperative that we:

• Enhance trust between law enforcement and residents: Building a foundation of mutual respect and trust is essential. I will support initiatives that foster open communication and transparency between the police and the community.
• Implement mentorship programs to deter crime: Providing guidance and support to high-risk youth can significantly reduce the likelihood of criminal behavior. I will champion mentorship and educational programs that offer positive role models and opportunities for personal growth, as well as hold those accountable when needed.
• Improve mental health services for high-risk individuals: Addressing the root causes of crime often involves supporting mental health. I will advocate for increased funding and accessibility for mental health service ensuring
  that those in need receive the care and support they deserve.
  
  Transportation/ParkingPosition on the issue: Improving traffic safety and parking solutions.
  Additionally, I am committed to addressing transportation issues, including parking concerns, to ensure that our evolving city meets the needs of its residents. As our city continues to grow and evolve, traffic safety and parking have emerged as critical concerns that require our attention. I am dedicated to implementing thoughtful and sustainable solutions to these issues, ensuring that our transportation infrastructure can support our community's needs. I would address this with the following measures: 
  
  
• Implement traffic calming measures: Reducing traffic speeds and improving road safety is essential for protecting pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. I will advocate for the implementation of traffic calming measures, such as speed bumps, roundabouts, and enhanced crosswalks.
• Improve signage and road infrastructure: Clear and effective signage, along with well-maintained roads, are crucial for safe and efficient transportation. I will work to ensure that our city's road infrastructure is up to date and that signage is visible and informative.
• Ensure adequate parking solutions: Parking is a significant concern for many residents and businesses. I will explore innovative parking solutions, such as multi-level parking structures and better utilization of existing spaces, to alleviate parking challenges.

Position on the issue: Enhancing air and water quality.

Environmental stewardship is crucial for the well-being of our community. I am dedicated to focusing on the health of the Anacostia River, supporting local boaters, and addressing broader environmental issues to ensure a sustainable future. I would implement this by: 

• Implementing initiatives to improve the water quality of the Anacostia River, benefiting both the environment and the local community.
• Supporting regulations and programs that enhance air quality, contributing to a healthier living environment for all residents.
• Engage with local boaters and other stakeholders to address their concerns and ensure the sustainable use of our waterways is a place to visit, as well as a place to call home.
  
  

Enhancements on Traditional Values

Position on the issue: Fostering a sense of community and social cohesion based on shared principles.

Lastly, I am dedicated to promoting traditional values that foster a sense of community and social cohesion. Our neighborhood should be a place where we come together, support one another, and work collectively to create a better future for all residents. I firmly believe that our community is stronger when we work together. It is shared responsibility to ensure that our community is the best that it can be. Fostering a sense of community and social cohesion based on shared principles is essential. We must work collaboratively to uphold the values that make our community strong and united. My career, enriched by skills such as Public Service, Communication, and Effective Leadership, and bolstered by achievements in areas like zoning, streets, recreation, education, social services, sanitation, planning, safety, budget, and health services, has deeply informed my approach to these issues. Balancing the needs of different groups requires active listening and empathy. I will engage with diverse community members to understand their unique needs and work towards solutions that benefit everyone. Collaboration and compromise are key to achieving a harmonious community. As an ANC Commissioner, my primary responsibility is to be the neighborhood's official voice in advising the District government on matters that affect our neighborhoods.  I would implement this by: 

• Organizing regular community events to strengthen neighborhood ties: Bringing people together through events and activities helps to build a sense of camaraderie and belonging. I will work to organize and support events that foster community spirit and engagement from our youngest residents to our seniors.
• Promoting family values and support services: Families are the cornerstone of our community. I will advocate for programs and services that support the overall family well-being structure, including parenting resources, family counseling, and recreational activities; which includes a playground for children, even things that has the inclusion for our beloved pets. 
• Encourage local businesses to invest in community projects: Local businesses play a vital role in the health and prosperity of our neighborhoods. I will encourage partnerships between businesses and community organizations to invest in projects that benefit the community as a whole.
